The St Patrick’s College Old Collegians’ Association (SPCOCA) will honour three Old Collegians by inducting them as Legends at a gala dinner being held in Melbourne in August.
Former Geelong premiership player and coach John Devine will be honoured at the dinner alongside two men who have excelled in education over the past 50 years.
John Mooney PSM (SPC 1960-66) will be recognised for his nearly five decades of work in special education, including the last 16 years as principal of Victoria’s largest specialist school, Emerson Specialist School. John was presented with a Public Service Medal in the 2014 Australia Day Honours list.
David Gallagher (SPC 1962-68) will also be honoured for his four decades of excellence in education culminating in his current role as the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) Manager with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority.
Mr Devine (SPC 1952-55) played in the Geelong 1963 premiership team and was this year named in the St Patrick’s College Greatest Football Team of 120 Years.
SPCOCA president Mr Michael Kearney said the biannual Melbourne Legends Dinner was one of the highlights on the St Patrick’s College calendar.
“We are delighted to be able to host such functions where we get to recognise the fantastic achievements of so many who have been affiliated with St Patrick’s College,” Mr Kearney said.
“This year’s inducted legends have all excelled in their chosen fields for decades and are true exemplars of our College’s aim to produce great men.”
The dinner will be held at Frank Dimattina’s Il Gambero restaurant in Lygon St, Carlton on Friday, August 15. Tickets are valued at $80 and are available by contacting St Patrick’s College on 5322 4486 or by emailing Rachel Bryant at email@example.com.
