John Frederick Martin (SPC 1947-51) sadly passed away this year on February 23, 2025, at the age of 92 years.
John was the older brother of Michael Antony Martin (SPC 1947-53, PY1955) who passed away on 5 August 2025, aged 88 years.
John was a full-time boarder from the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill. John began his studies in the sub-intermediate class and continued through, completing his matriculation.
He was very actively involved in school life at SPC. Throughout his time at SPC, John was a member of the Altar Society, Sodality of Our Lady and St Vincent de Paul.
He was a good sportsman and was involved in athletics from a young age. He also played basketball and cricket. He was a member of the First XVIII Football team in 1949 and a member of the Firsts rowing crew in 1951.
He also enjoyed public speaking and was a finalist in the 1949 Literary and Debating Society with his speech on “The Suez Canal”.

John was the loving husband of Elisabeth (dec) and we extend our condolences to John’s extended family, including his partner Maureen, children Nicholas, Sarah, Emma and Dominic and eight grandchildren. Tributes spoke of a “full life well lived”, his “cheeky spirit” and his support “of numerous TABS and travel agents over the years”.
