On Sunday, 9 November 2025, 12 Class of 1974 guys and three partners turned up at the Red Lion Hotel Sports Bar in Ballarat for our annual get together to celebrate the past year and celebrate an early Christmas.

Again, many stories were told about our days at SPC and how it prepared us for the world after our secondary schooling.

It was interesting to see that publican (David Canny (SPC 1980-85), brother of Peter (SPC 1969-74) in our year) is a part owner of this year’s Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner, Half Yours. The Caulfield Cup photo is proudly displayed in the Sports Bar and no doubt in a short time, the Melbourne Cup photo will adore the wall too. What an achievement.

It is urged that all SPC PY1974 guys keep the second Sunday of November in 2026 in mind for our next annual get-together, with the venue to be confirmed. This is giving you all ample time to store that date for this celebration. We hope to see more of you and your partners next time.

Wishing all SPC OCA and SPC staff and students a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2026.

– Thanks to Shane Pianta (SPC 1973-74) for preparing this story
