Mission Report

September 16, 2021

by Director of Mission, Mr Geoff Brodie

As I write this we are dealing with news of another lockdown. Let us be clear that it is united in the strength of our friendships and family that this challenge will be met, as we proclaim with St Paul “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Gal 6:9) Our endurance comes not from turning inwards but turning to those around us and asking what we can do to help. But even more than this, our loving service to those around us produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” (Rom 5:3-5) God is with us, always.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Mrs Elizabeth Ryan for her unique contribution to the community of St Patrick’s College. I am sure there is not one person who knows all that Elizabeth has offered the College over many years and in a range of roles. May we be united in our prayer that the Lord continues to bless Elizabeth; that God’s face continues to shine upon her and her family, and that she may know “every joy and peace in the future.” (cf Num 6:24–26)

Recalling the many gifts Elizabeth offered the College, let us be reminded of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and that we may be open to God’s grace at this time of challenge. May the term break be a time when we renew our commitment to God’s vision of a fulfilling life.

Let us pray for Wisdom: Loving God, helps us to judge what is important, meaningful, and purposeful,

Let us pray for Understanding: Loving God, grant us the grace to truly understand, and not merely accept appearances.

Let us pray for Counsel: Loving God, help us differentiate between right and wrong.

Let us pray for Fortitude: Loving God, grant us courage and endurance.

Let us pray for Knowledge: Loving God, help us to truly know you and your gifts.

Let us pray for Piety: Loving God, may we follow you out of love.

Let us pray for Awe of the Lord’s presence: Loving God, may we always be surprised and renewed by your goodness and love.

We make all our prayers in the unity of the Holy Spirit, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
