News around the Boarding Precinct

  • A huge thanks to the Boarders who gave up their Saturday morning to assist at the community event, Walk Off the War Within. WOTWW is a Memorial Walk for ex-SPC student and Firefighter, Nathan Shanahan and other Service Personnel who have unfortunately succumbed to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Participants are asked to walk 20km while carrying 20kg packs, symbolising the 400km awareness walk Nathan Shanahan completed from Mildura to Adelaide. Our Boarders volunteered on one of the drink stations, handing out water and supporting the walkers. It was a very wet Ballarat day and we could not be prouder of the boarders who supported this cause -“ James Richardson (12), Connor O’Callaghan (12), Tyrese Thompson (11), Josh Wilson-Stanton (11), Tom Gorman (10), Xavier Hayter (9), Archie Pollard (10), Lachlan McCarty (10) and Austin Reinehr (9).

  • Huge congratulations to Regan Champley (12) and Connor Shugg (11) who returned from the Rowing National Championships in Penrith as Champions. Along with the SPC First Crew, these boarders have competed in 18 Finals, amassing an impressive 14 Gold Medals, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze over the 2017/18 Rowing Season. This is a wonderful achievement and a great indication of the time and effort that has been put into this team and the SPC Rowing Program.

  • Congratulations to Isaac Wareham (11) who, along with the SPC First XI Cricket team, recently took out the BAS Two Day Cricket Grand Final with a comfortable six wicket win over Ballarat and Clarendon College.

  • Following on with the cricket news, congratulations to the following Boarders who won awards at the 2018 SPC Cricket Presentation Night;

    Isaac Wareham (11) -“ Adam Hollioake 1st XI Best All-Rounder Award

    James Richardson (12) -“ 2018 Senior 2nd XI Blue Batting Award

    Lachlan McCarty (10) -“ 2nd XI SPC Green Premiers Medal

  • Congratulations to current year 10 Boarder, Fraser Marris who was part of the victorious SPC Senior Golf team which won the recent Annual BAS Golf Championship.

  • St Patrick’s College were privileged to recently host teams from AFL Victoria’s Multicultural and Indigenous Pathways Program. Some of our boarding students, especially those in Year 9, 10 and 11, were lucky enough to play in matches against the visitors. Well done to Dennis Coolwell (11), Layton Priest (10), Austin Reinehr (9), Xavier Hayter (9), Myles King (11), Elijah Kelly (11), Delroy Tranter (10), Jayden Cooper (11), Tyrone Holt (10), Corey Bell (9), Fred Batman-Baird (10) and Tyrese Thompson (11) who participated on the day.

  • On Wednesday March 28, we farewelled 10 of our Boarders as they left on the inaugural 2018 Senior Rugby Tour to Canberra. The tour promises plenty of amazing opportunities and experiences for the Boarders, including staying at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), visiting the National War Memorial, attending the Brumbies vs. Waratahs game and playing against St Edmund’s College, a fellow EREA school. We wish all of the Boarders, along with the Staff, safe travels and an enjoyable tour.

  • We also wish those boys participating in the 2018 Senior Football Camp in Melbourne safe travels. Boarders will leave on Tuesday April 3 for a three-day camp within Melbourne, with special guest speakers including Danny Frawley and Alex McDonald.

    Up-Coming Events

  • Term 2 will begin on Tuesday April 17, with the Boarding Precinct reopening at 5pm on Monday April 16.

  • Wednesday April 18 -“ St Kevin’s Annual Sports Fixture including Football, Basketball, Rugby, Soccer, Cross Country and Hockey.

  • Friday April 20 -“ Junior and Middle School Cross Country Event.

  • Where has Term (1) gone. What an incredible time it has been for all members of our Boarding Community. I had the opportunity to speak with our Boarders on Sunday evening to congratulate them on what has been an outstanding term, not without its challenges and difficulties, not without moments that we wish had not occurred, however we have learnt from all our experiences and we are richer for working through the adversity. There exists a real sense of community amongst our Boarders and supported by our staff. We are stronger as one -“ and this has been most evident as we have helped each other individually and together collectively throughout this incredibly busy first term. It leaves me with the pleasure of wishing all a safe and enjoyable Easter holiday, a time to be spent with loved ones, a time to relax and recharge. Thank you all for the continued trust you place in us, we love doing what we do -“ and if we can do anything to improve what we do, please do not hesitate to let us know.
